watercoolerdictator Fun fact - the guy responsible for the NME review aforementioned was Keith Cameron, who was decent enough to provide a quote for Chris' "Things I Make" book. I still have that review...if the first album was an impressive opener, I'm sure The Closer You Get sealed the deal for many of us. It rocks, it is packed with great melodies (even the noisy shouty bits) and it is still one of my all-time faves. Favorite track: Ten Places To Die.

Ian Mathers I still remember reading something typically hyperbolic in the NME(online) about this record - maybe it was comparing the first record to the Stooges on heroin and this one to the Stooges on speed? - and seeking out a copy as soon as I can. My discman was dying (god I'm dating myself) and the first listen there was this extra layer of distortion where I couldn't even hear the vocals. I already loved it but when I played it properly I loved it even more. Favorite track: 100 & Something Foxhall Road.

Jason Bowers First saw six by seven live back in 97 or 98 and bought The Things We Make. So I am amazed that I have only recently purchased what is an absolute classic of a 2nd album. I suppose the only advantage is that I also now own the Peel Sessions which was included in this high quality and great value package!! Nice one Chris
